Austria: Winner of Eurovision Young Musicians


    Tonight, 31th of May, was the 17th celebration of “Eurovision Young Musicians 2014”, a very special contest that took place in Cologne, Germany. WDR (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) was the host of the night and gave us a night to remember.
    26 & 27 of May was the 2 days of the preliminary rounds that has been streamed live from youngmusicians.tv. The contestants had the chance to show their talent in 15 minutes for the “semi” and 5 minutes for the Grand Final. The contestants was accompanied by the WDR Symphonic Orchestra, under the leadership of Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska. The winner of completion will have a chance to appear with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 2015.
     This year 14 countries participated in the contest: Croatia, Norway, Malta, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria and The Netherlands was in the first round in 26th of May. Poland, Portugal, Greece, Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic and Moldova was in the second round in 27th of May.
    Austria was the Big Winner of the 31th May for the EYM 2014. After the Grand winner Conchita Wurst, Austria has another reason to be proud, the violinist Ziyu HE who played “2. Violinkonzert” by Béla Bartók. The second place was concurred by Urban Stanič for Slovenia with the piece “Grande polonaise brillante, op. 22 E-flat major” by Fryderyk Chopin for Piano and the third place by Gergely Devich (Cello) with the piece “Allegro appassionato Op.43” by Saint-Saëns for Hungary.
    The next “Eurovision Young Musicians” will be in 2016 in Austria. Until then we wish to all the contestants a bright future in music world!
